American passport. I am currently on an ED visa in bangkok, which ends December 24th. I have a flight back home on December 26th. My plan is to go to immigration on the 22nd, cancel my visa or whatever the end process is called for an ED visa, and also apply for an extention. I am hoping the result is a 7 day stamp to get out of thailand when the extention gets denied. Is this a sound plan? Thanks in advance for any information.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user on an ED visa in Bangkok seeks advice on their plan to cancel the visa and apply for a 7-day extension before a December 26 flight home. Community members provide insights on immigration procedures, indicate that the plan is plausible, and highlight potential issues regarding the timing of the extension application and the closing days of immigration.
When does your ed extension actually expire? If it's on or after the 26th you'd be better getting a letter from your school stating the date you stop studying and cancelling in advance at the immigration office
Your plan should work. The 7 days would start the day you apply which should still carry you to your exit date. The only potential problem could be that immigration doesn't have to accept your application for an extension to deny it. But the odds are probably low of that happening.
