Can I extend my ED visa by just a few days to afford a cheaper flight from Thailand?

re: 7 day get out of thailand stamp

My initial 3 month ED visa expires 2nd July. I need to go back to England in early July. Flights on 29th June - 2nd July are significantly more expensive than flights on 4th-7th July, but clearly these dates are after my visa expires.

I can pay 3,500 through my school to extend another 3 months, which would give me the most flexiblity with booking a cheap flight in July. However, I'd also have to pay 1,900 to officially cancel this before I leave, as this is an actually visa extension (?). Adding up these costs defeats the point of extending for a cheaper flight.

Ideally, I would just like to extend by a few days to get the cheaper flight. Can I clarify two things:

If I take the first option, will I indeed have to pay to cancel the extension before I leave in order to avoid technical overstay?

Can I instead just pay 1,900 for a 7 day get out of Thailand extension for 1,900?

PS: Plan on future trips to Thailand for personal reasons, thus want to avoid overstay.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice about extending their ED visa, which expires on July 2nd, to secure a cheaper flight. They ask whether they need to pay to cancel an extension to avoid overstaying and if they can obtain a 7-day extension stamp instead for 1,900 THB. Responses clarify that cancelling the extension is generally free and that the 7-day stamp requires departure within that period, not exceeding the visa expiration.

They don't have to give you the 7 day stamp, they can just so no to your extension application so take your flight booking with you when you go to immigration.

Q. will I indeed have to pay to cancel the extension before I leave in order to avoid technical overstay?

-> Most offices don't charge you for the application for extension cancellation.

Q. Can I instead just pay 1,900 for a 7 day get out of Thailand extension for 1,900?

-> The 7-days-to-leave-Kingdom stamp is NOT an extension. You have no choice but to leave within the days given. You can apply for an extension for whatever reason for the 1900 thb fee, that would be denied and get the 7 days stamp.

Remember, that 7 days would start on the day of application, not be added like other extensions. It would be only up to 5 days plus, not 7 days if you don't want to get the stamp mentioning overstay because the 2nd of July is Sunday you have to apply before the weekend
