Can I leave Thailand while my visa application is under consideration and re-enter with a Non-B visa?

Hi! So I'm holding an ED-visa (which I have cancelled) and I've been on Covid extension since June 2021. So my extension was due to expire on April 21st so I applied for another extension on April 18th. The immigration put me under consideration and asked me to close the loop on May 18. However... I recently got hired by a company that's willing to sponsor a non-b visa and I'll have to start on the 9th of May. I was wondering if it is okay for me to leave Thailand - without closing the under consideration "loop" and re-enter. (FYI: I have an ASEAN passport so I am eligible for Visa Exempt -> can be converted to Non-b, correct?). Can someone enlighten me on this?

And your holding ASEAN passport doesn't make you eligible for visa-exempt. It's your nationality. Some ASEAN countries are not on visa-exempt scheme.

You can leave Thailand without an under-consideration stamp closed (before that date) with no problem. But if you leave the country, it may be better to try to apply for Non-B with help from your employer to enter Thailand again after the historical multiple Covid extensions.

You should talk with your employer and the Immigration Office if a Visa Exempt Entry can be converted into a Non Immigrant B visa.

Easier is to apply for the Non Immigrant B visa while you are abroad as the requirements of a Thai Embassy are less than conversion at Immigration.
