Yes!! getting long-stay visa for work is difficult but it is not totally impossible like someone else said.

You do need the qualifications / education and job-experience to be able to get a job in Thailand, and get the sponsorship from your company for the Non-B visa and work-permit application.

One possible approach is getting an expat-assignment in France, in case he works for a company in France that has offices in Thailand and they're willing to help you. Becoming a TEFL teacher is probably one of the easiest approaches but (unless he is highly qualified) the salary and job can be challenging. The website ajarn.com has info about teaching jobs and what people (don't) like about it.

Also, there is the newer SMART visa's for specific highly qualified staff. Some generic info you can read here:

It's still the exact same situation as Brandon described skillfully.

If the OP is to lazy to perform the most basic check and resorting for FB for advise, I'm inclined to make an exception that BS is very well deserved in this situation..

TiT. Let's agree disagree Steve 🙂 Reason isI know several folks 1st hand being denied access upon their 2nd! entry using METV after staying the full 60days. Immigration argued they're using it to live in Thailand. You claim tourism? Then provide proof of moving across the country every couple days, excursions etc). Long term stay on METV etc will work for some but the old days are gone.

when using METV for long stay (like using max days, extending) you risk immigration officer will conclude using it to live the country. Hence you're using the wrong visa and denied access. For some it still works, but rules have become more strict over past few years and risks are up. Lot's of stories of people having trouble if you search for it.

And to be clear it won't bother me at all if someone risks getting denied access at the border. There's stories of people getting in successfully. And those getting denied for reasons mentioned. Some awareness of that seems fair mate.

no worries mate, agree that when using the METV to stay for a short while, leave (ie neighboring country) and enter again for purpose of multiple short stays you're using the METV as intended.

However, when using it to 'get up to 9 months in Thailand' you're no longer a tourist (not my words) hence and not using METV as intended.
