Posted this on another local group But thought I’d ask here as have had good assistance here before… i was asked recently by visiting friend in bkk who is here now, if you can do land border crossing at Chiangsean border since maesai border been closed to tourists now for weeks due to “unrest” happening there 😔
Has anyone crossed here recently? Im getting mixed consensus if only for ( local/ non foreign) crossing
Any other suggestions for a quick land crossing border?

First I would like to thank everyone in this group for sharing valuable information. I just want to say that Mae Sai border is open again, I got 45 days. There is an option to stay 14 days in Myanmar in the area of Tachileik. Have a good day everyone.
The last info I read had it that it is a more complicated process than it used to be..in that one also has to collect and pay for transit permissions on Thai side even before exit , then as used to be..enter briefly , pay for Myanmar visa then cross back to thai side..
BTW...this is for an already initiated multi entrance visa..and will go to Chiang Khong/Huaixai as I had before if there are complications on Mai Sai route.
Today the Thai-Myanmar border crossing of Mae Sai reopened. It appears to be the first "proper" land border reopening that should allow foreigners and Thais to pass, without being restricted to the border town or a border run (for certain foreign nationalities). However, it is noted that Covid restrictions apply on the Myanmar side and will apply for at least one month before they are re-evaluated. Everyone, Thais and foreigners will need either proof of vaccination or a Covid rapid antigen test done within 48 hours and this proof must be printed out. No electronic copies accepted. Another rapid antigen test will be performed on arrival in Tachilek at a cost of 15000 Myanmar Kyat. Only one day pass holders are exempted from the on arrival test. It is not known whether foreigners, who request a one day pass will be exempted or if this only applies to Thais holding border passes.
The link is only in Thai. I'm sure English language media will soon have their own versions, but they're usually delayed by a day or two.
