If you put 800K baht in a savings account in Thailand for a retirement visa, will it pay any interest? If so, about how much recently?

Niche DTV bank account post info that might help others in a similar situation. I've had a BKK bank account for a few years that I opened on a Non-O retirement visa back before DTV's were a thing. Switched to DTV when it came out as it works best for the wife and I. My debit card expired last week and I'm on a new passport since I opened the bank account. Thought uh-oh I'm on a DTV now, maybe BKK bank won't let me get a new card. They sent all the details off to Bangkok head office and 1 week later I had a new debit card good for 4 years. So even though we are now on DTV's I could still get a new debit card. While bank people were helping me and talking in Thai I could hear the phrase DTV a couple of times so they definitely knew I was on one. Only thing I use the card for is Grab as we always do card-less ATM withdrawals to avoid skimmers. The card spent it's life in a drawer and only when Grab stopped working did I know it had expired.

Has anyone been successful with providing an account statement that was not in English? Unfortunately my bank only generates statements in the local language. I can transfer the required amount to another account but then I won't have a few months history of funds being in that account, plus I will need to wait until the new statement can be generated

Hi,

Hopefully I can get some guidance here and this is not a repeat question ... I have searched but ......

I am on a Non O retirement visa using a bank deposit ... vs a pension.

Can I change banks if at all times I maintain the minimum THB400,000 deposit in the post 3 month period of my visa extension. ... as in I initially have two accounts with THB400,000 plus in them and then drain the old to fill the new.

So at my next renewal I will have statements from two different banks covering the 12 month period but collectively meeting all balance requirements.

Logically that seems ok to me but I know the system has its own intricacies!

I hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.

We're now seeing a lot of people with DTV cannot open bank accounts. But many people don't know what's happening with thai banks.

Thailand banking has already joined CRS in 2023. CRS means common reporting system. That means banks here will need to report individuals to other countries banks and tax authorities. It's a thing which HNWIs don't like because of their privacy concerns.

A Thai elite visa is also a kind of glorified tourist visa. DTV visa is also a tourist visa (banks here always say that). However, our DTV holders cannot open. But from the banks side, they have to do a lot of paperwork. That's why they don't like us, dtv holders.

Although they already joined the CRS, they didn't clean up the mess first which is agents. Yes tourists can still open any bank accounts with the help of agents. So, think about yourself, money laundering cases etc. i won't explain further here.

I need to open a thai bank account so a local can pay me. Having trouble doing it via Wise for example so I would like to open a bangkok bank or kbank account. Open to any thai bank. I have a signed year lease for a property and can get the resident certificate if needed from either my embassy or from thai immigration
