TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a bank account in Thailand while on a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) is challenging. Many users have pointed out that banks are generally reluctant to provide accounts for individuals on short-term visas, including the DTV. They require a long-term visa, proof of residence, and a stable source of income. Recent regulatory changes have made it even harder to open an account, with many banks outright refusing applicants on a DTV.

No, DTV are not eligable for a bankaccount.

You need a real longterm visa, stayed several months in Thailand on a permanent adress with a long lease, and able to deposit large sums regulary for a easy verifiable source, to even be considered to be a Thai bank customer.

And that was before the recent tightening of rules last week.

So don’t waste time dreaming about a bankaccount, you are on the wrong visa for that.

Banks in Thailand are like everywhere in the world, interested in having good stable custormers, that have a permanent address, a steady easy traceable income, and use the account all year round.

That is why the banks are reluctant to give accounts to people on short time ( read: tourist ) visas, and who only spend part of the year in Thailand.

Don’t expect to get a residence certificat, until you have stayed at a permanent adress in at least 3 month, since that is what the residence certificat should confirm.

Furthermore the added attention on whitewashing of money, is an added burden on the banks, so reluctant depositing large amounts isn’t a guaranteed way to open an account.

The value of a resident certificat, had gone down, since Immigration Officers are giving them to people that are not on a longterm visa, or have stayed severel months at 1 adress in Thailand, so even if it is a formal requirement, the bank make up their own assesment of the stability of the want-to-be customer.

I would disagree before the recent tightening. I opened mine with no issues at all with my DTV on my second day of being in the country. Personally I think it was just luck of the draw.

I did see someone on Thursday refused in the same branch when they tried.

depends on the customer approach and paperwork. It's a 5 year visa regardless of status. Also depends on your country. Prove you are not a scammer that's the issue with banks not the visa. Last few days 🤣🤣🤣 people have been posting here about this issue for months. If an agent can open an account for DTV anyone can.

Watch the news on all the scams and human trafficking going on in Thailand. The Thai military is involved. They cracked down early last year however about 12 days ago on Monday they REALLY cracked down. Watch the news.
