I wanted to share my frustrating experience applying for the DTV through the Thai Embassy in The Hague because I’ve seen so many people in other countries getting easy approvals without strict residency requirements.
I’ve been a digital nomad for 12 years and currently live in the Netherlands, but I’m not a Dutch citizen and don’t have a Dutch ID. Despite this, I provided clear proof of my residency, including:
✅ A lease agreement for my home in Alkmaar
✅ Bank statements & utility bills with my Dutch address
✅ A passport entry stamp confirming my stay
✅ Immigration-stamped documents from when I imported my service dog
🚨 The embassy flat-out refused to accept any of this and insisted I needed a Dutch residence permit or national ID, which was never stated as a requirement in their own guidelines.
📉 What makes this worse?
I previously applied and was even approved for an interview, but my application was canceled when I was temporarily out of the country. Now, with this new application, suddenly the requirements have changed, and they are completely ignoring my requests for proper communication.
Meanwhile, I’m seeing people in Jakarta, Vietnam, Taipei, and Laos getting easy approvals, even though they’re clearly not residents of those countries. So why is the embassy in The Hague making this process impossible?
I’ve now had to escalate my case to Thai Immigration directly because of how unprofessional and inconsistent the Dutch embassy has been. If you’re thinking about applying for the DTV and you’re not a citizen of the country you’re applying from, I strongly recommend choosing a different embassy to avoid this mess.
Hi everyone! Does anyone have a recent experience of applying through Vietnam and providing a bank statement with a recent transfer of 500k THB or a sponsorship letter through Soft Power?
I would be able to provide the history for the last 6 months but there wouldn’t be much more than like $800 of income every month. Most of my assets kept in crypto as well and again not a massive amount. Would be grateful for any advice.
(I will be applying through Sof Power - Muay Thai)
Question for filling up the form - For the Home address, should I write the address in the country where I originally from? Or the address where I’m currently at (e.g. temporary in Vietnam for applying the visa)?
Permanent address = original address from my home town or my Thailand address or Vietnam hotel address???
Hey guys, as a fellow digital nomad I have no permanent residency, I've been living in Airbnbs for over a year now, is this going to be a problem when applying for the DTV? Does anyone know what I can use as a proof of address since I have nothing to show?
I went to an appt with an Endocrinologist in BKK to refill my meds, the Dr recommended testing every 3 months. I asked the hospital if they can write a letter for visa support and this was their reply:
"Greetings from Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital.
Regrettably, we do not have service to provide letter for visa application.
We could only provide you medical certificate and you may contact Embassy for more information and further assistance."
Is this normal? Is the medical certificate enough? Should I try another hospital?
Was just wondering could I apply for a DTV if I want to start teaching English online to students outside of Thailand? Am about to begin a TEFL course soon and was also wondering how I could show proof of employment if that’s needed? Will be applying through London Embassy
I'm planning to apply as a remote worker and have seen posts about applicants being asked to provide payslips and proof of salary deposits in their bank statements. I use two different accounts—a checking and a savings account. My salary is automatically deposited into my checking account, but I keep most of my funds in my savings, which is what I intend to use as proof of 500K. I’d rather not transfer the 500K to my checking account because I’d have to wait a full month for my bank statement to reflect the amount. Any advice on how to navigate this?
