I believe to apply for the Non O Visa for retirement in Thailand one needs a passport with no less than 6 months validity . Then to get the extension i imagine you would need a passport with more than 12 months validity . So ideally 1,1/2 years validity . Is this correct ?
If this is correct then if i was to travel to Thailand say in Jan 2023 with a passport that expired in Jan 2024 and applied for the Non O then i wouldn't have enough validity left on my passport for the extension . If that is the case would it be wiser to apply for a new passport before i left home ?
I can't recall from my last passport reissue if the new passport starts at the end date of the old one or if it starts from the time you make the application . I hope that makes some kind of sense . π€

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a Non-O Visa for retirement in Thailand, you must have a passport with at least 6 months of validity. For extensions, ideally, your passport should have more than 12 months of validity remaining. Therefore, if you plan to travel to Thailand in January 2023 with a passport expiring in January 2024, you may not meet the requirements for the extension. It is advisable to renew your passport before traveling to avoid complications.

Better renew the passport while in the country of nationality. Less hassles with embasssies/consulates abroad. If US, will be good for 10 years. Validity is not continuation of the old, or application date. It valid from date of issue as it is processed.
So if there is 6 months left on my passport when applying for the extension the extension will only be stamped for 6 months ? If i were to apply for a new passport at my embassy in that time would i then apply for a new 1 year extension based on the new passport ?
