re; extension criteria Chaengwattana

Okay after multiple tries to get the DTV extension of stay criteria paperwork from the main immigration at Chaengwattana Section J over about a month going there every week to the section that does Tourist Visa & DTV extensions, I finally got it today.

The first two pages are the Thai language and the last two are the english

Could have already been posted sorry if it was

That's the best I could do people :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion revolves around the extension criteria for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) and Tourist Visa in Thailand, specifically from the Chaengwattana immigration office. Users share insights gained from personal experiences, including required documentation and suggested reasons for requesting an extension on the TM7 form, such as 'Foreign Talent' or 'Remote Worker.' Confirmations on financial requirements indicate that proof of funds can be met by having at least 500,000 baht in one bank account, not necessarily split between Thai and foreign accounts.

Regarding financial evidence, does it mean I need to have both Thai and foreign bank accounts with at least 500,000 baht each?

Or only need to have more than 500,000 baht in one account?

a follow-up to this post. i got my 180 day extension yesterday using the documents listed here. thank you to the op.

everything was fine. the one thing i will say is, for online workers make sure you take extra evidence of what you do online and how you make your money. showing a bank statement, giving a web address, and even explaining it in a letter may not be enough. they asked me to take screenshots of my website explaining what i do and what i sell, and screenshots of my instagram, and because im an online coach, they wanted screenshots of communication with clients to prove i do in fact work with people.

they werent being difficult. they just wanted more information.

so when you go for your extension, there is no such thing as too much proof.

can you explain to me how the extension works? So if I donโ€™t leave the country I need to go to the immigration office and provide all this paperwork? Or where do I go? But if I leave the country and come back in then itโ€™s fine?
Adam ********
@Dave ***
as
@Tod ********
said its just like any other visa extension so you dont need to leave the country on the date originally stamped in your passport.

it is essentially resubmitting the same documents you used to apply for the dtv. however i was just letting people know you may need to provide a lot more proof of what you do to make your money if you're an online worker. in my original application, I was able to simply write in a cover letter what i did, give a web address and an instagram account. but to get the extension, that wasn't enough, they wanted more proof.

yep, they sure made you hoop jump ๐Ÿ˜ฎ glad you got it

Sure seems that bouncing out and back to get a new 180 day entry stamp is the easier of the two choices though ๐Ÿ˜•
Adam ********
@Tod ********
please correct me if Iโ€™m wrong but I did a little research before getting the extension and it seemed the usual bus border run services donโ€™t work for the dtv? Meaning you need to fly out and back in again. Making the whole process considerably more expensive than getting the extension.
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Adam *******
depends on the border you're trying to bounce at and whether you use a service or not to take you there and back.

People are not reporting issues bouncing out and back in the south of thailand with Malaysia or Burma, people are reporting having to stay out of thailand 2 days when bouncing out/back with the Lao borders in the north

Don't know about the Cambo borders, sorry
Dave ****
Noted thank you wasnโ€™t clear we had to somehow renew by submitting new documents vs leaving the country. I also thought we had to pay the $500 or whatever the visa fee is every 6 months
Tod *********

@Dave ***
nope either show all the documents again to get the extension inside the country for 180 days for 1900baht

OR

Bounce out and back to get a new 180 day entry stamp
Tod *********

@Dave ***
works like this the DTV is a FIVE year visa, unlimited entry, each entry gets 180 days entry stamp.

You can extend each entry ONE time for an additional 180 days at the immigration office where you stay for 1900baht by providing all the documentation required.

OR

You can exit/re-enter the country when your 180 day entry stamp is running out and get a brand new entry stamp for 180 days

i applied under the soft power for a medical check up and have already completed that, i wonder if i would need a 'new medical appointment' for the extension or just provide evidence that i attended the initial one?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Lee ***
Go to your immigration office and ask them, but I would hazard a guess that you'd need to show that you have "continuing treatment"

You should bounce out and back
Wik *****
Sorry but this here is about the extension after 180 days right ?

Ist it the easiest way to get the next stemp when u do a little trip to Vietnam for a week and come back ?

I mean is this gonna work out or it might be a problem ?
Graham ******
@Wik ****
That would work, new 180 day stamp
Ron ******
Its seems to be 10k again,plus resubmission of docs, better to do a day trip to Chantaburi me thinks
Ron ******
It was incorrectly reported here earlier, thanks for correcting yhr error
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Ron *****
you are 100% correct, I was the person who reported that it looked like (from the thai version the government put out) that the extension would be an additional 10K ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

That was wrong, ๐Ÿ˜•

Sorry about that mis-information, it's 1900baht just like all extensions
Ron ******
@Tod ********
those early versions were very confusing, and statements made by officials made it seem like the DTV visa could be based on family support, when it only allows for adding family members. Following closely, happy birthday, thanks for your efforts with this group!
Tod *********

@Ron *****
agreed, that was a big misunderstanding in how they decided to word the "dependent" DTV.

It almost made it seem like you could get a DTV if you had a thai wife or child ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

BUT

what it really meant was IF you had a foreign wife or child (under 20) they could get "piggy back" DTV's off yours wtih you being the primary DTV holder
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Ron *****
it's not it's 1900baht same price as all extensions in thailand

people have gotten the DTV extension already at different offices and they paid 1900baht.
Graham ******
@Ron *****
why do you say it will be 10k again when all extensions cost 1900B
Ron ******
@Graham *****
members and moderator mentioned it earlier
Brad *********
Great info. I entered as remote worker, so the same documents I used to apply seem to be what they're asking to see, should be easy enough.
Ty *******
Believe Iโ€™m excluded as Iโ€™m an non-O on extension
Tara ********
Sorry if it's in these documents and I missed it. . But is there any indication of how long the funds need to be showing in the bank account?
Lloyd ********
@Tara *******
Yes, 30 days prior
Clint *********
@Lloyd *******
just for the extension?
Pete *****
Thanx for your effort Todd

i knew they would eventually have the hand out, as you can see that came out Jan 13th and they did let me see it last week BUT as I'm not on a DTV I couldn't have it OR take a photo of any sections.

This week they had a stack of them on her desk so I guess it was "approved for general distribution" ๐Ÿ˜› Either that or she got sick of seeing me show up there at that section every week to ask about it ๐Ÿ˜‰
Adam ********
What are any suggested/recommended reasons for the extension for the tm7 form? Not wanting to waste money flying in and out doesnโ€™t seem like the correct answer
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Adam *******
some people want to get the one 180 day extension per entry they're allowed on the DTV stamp they're here on. They don't want to bounce out/back, they meet the requirements to get the extension (mostly the digital nomad/work-cation people) and they just would rather get the extension for 1900baht.

It's the soft power ones that I see having a problem with getting the extension because most of the people who did muay thai, cooking, etc to qualify only enrolled a max of 6 months, and many of those people don't have the funds banked anymore. ๐Ÿ˜•

Those are going to be the "bouncers" on the DTV it would seem
Adam ********
ok. thank you
Adam ********
@Tod ********
i understand that. i am the digital nomad who doesnt want to bounce in and out. but what im asking is, what to put on the tm7 form? i cant think of a reason for the extension, other than i dont want to bounce in and out.
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Adam *******
the reason is why you got the visa, when you get an extension on a free entry stamp it's for tourism so that's what you write, when you get a retirement extension you write retirement, marriage you write marriage to a thai, etc

Just write Foreign Talent or Digital Nomad/Freelancer or Remote Worker

and for the length of the extension just write 180 days
Lloyd ********
I do wonder how many still have the 500k ? ;-)
Andi ***********
@Lloyd *******
Great question....many will have returned the 500k to investments and will do border runs where the 500k is not asked for..
Stuart *********
@Lloyd *******
I wonder how many actually did the soft power option they booked.
