Hello, is it true that you can't apply for DTV when you're currently in Thailand?
Also DTV is valid for 5 years, is it valid 5 years from now on or 5 calendar years? So if I would get it today is it valid to 08.11.2029 or 1.1.2029?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus is that you cannot apply for a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) while currently in Thailand; it must be applied for from another country. Additionally, the DTV is valid for five years starting from the date of issuance, not from the beginning of the calendar year.
If you use a good agency you can apply online (evisa) while in Thailand. That's what I did and got it approved in around 5 days once I collated all the required documents. I just need to leave and come back to start it which I am doing in 2 weeks. Visa 10k baht. Agency fee 20k. Still crazy-cheap even with the fee.
Yes, you have to apply in another country. One of the requirements is that you prove that you are in the country where you applied for the visa. (photo of the visa in the passport) And the visa is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance.
