You should get an extension. Overstays were tolerated, but I heard reports that they are starting to detain people on overstays at the airport making them miss their flights, or this is at least what the guy at Integrity Legal said last month. I would not risk overstaying, it’s not worth it.
I was with an American family in Vietnam last month, they all lost their passports and wanted to go to Phnom Penh US Embassy for some reason with their emergency passports and we got on a bus, but at the border they were told they cannot enter Cambodia.
