What are the visa extension rules for a DTV in Thailand, and do I need to leave the country to extend my stay?

Planning to move to Thailand on the DTV in August as a remote worker, initially thinking of 2 years. I will be bringing my dog with me so lots of boxes to tick but my daughter is already living and working as an EYFS teacher. I am confused about the 180 day extension… will I need to leave and if so for how long? Or if I renew, will I need to re evidence the savings? I ask as within that time I will need to pay off my mortgage so may not have the funds.

Moving back to the UK with a dog isn’t easy so want to be as sure as I can that I won’t need to leave in a hurry.
