Hi,

I am currently travelling SEA since March 2024 and have spent most of my time in Thailand. It must have been 8 Months in total already. Last time I entered Thailand via plane, I was pulled out at immigration and was questioned, why I want to enter Thailand again. I am currently in Laos and plan to stay for 30 days - I arrived 3 days ago and plan to go back to Thailand, before going back home to Germany. Now I am quite concerned that my entry will be denied.

What is my best bet? Would a tourist Visa help in this case? I already tried to apply, but I seem to need a permanent address in Laos?! Could someone please help me understand?

Best to have your return ticket to germany within 60 days... may be 30 days better...come by land border .. have cash fir equivalent 20 000 bath and reservation hotel for one week

yes, went on a 30 day travel Visa. Had a departing flight. Been almost two years and retiring this year here.

yes, they did ask for the 3 proofs. They also asked me if I had 2 passports, if I do work in Thailand and why I am back again in general. I simply replied "because I love Thailand" which is true 😃 She then said I look like a good person and let me in.

Safe fast track / vip entry are the best if you don’t mind paying, even after many many visas runs, never had problem anymore with this way. Otherwise, try to apply for longer visa, tourist might not be enough

Your 'best bet' (as in: guaranteed) is paying for a safe fast track entry (in advance) for the airport of your choosing. The cost is neglible.

With your history of stay, anything else is now a randomized minigame of uncertainty and scrutiny that could spoil your travel plans.

You are probably referring to a visa exempt stamp. That is not a tourist visa. It’s just a stamp allowing you to stay for 60 days with no pre-paid visa (available for 93 countries).

However depending on previous entry history an immigration officer may question you as to whether your entry pattern is typical of a “normal” tourist or question whether you’re trying to stay long term in Thailand without a correct visa.

£30 for a tourist visa from the UK. Equivalent in other currencies in most other places other than NZ where they have stupid pricing.

A 60 day visa exempt stamp (no visa, just a stamp is free).

The chances of being questioned if you arrive by air will be high. Perhaps less so if you cross via land.

A tourist visa may help but it is no guarantee. You don’t need a permanent address in Laos to apply. A hotel address would suffice.

The chance of actually being denied entry would be less if you can provide the “3 proofs” at your entry point. 20k cash in baht or equivalent. Proof of accommodation and proof of a flight/ticket out. Those won’t stop you being denied but they are the three main reasons that the officer could cite as a reason to deny.

worth noting the 20,000 THB or equivalent needs to be in cash, not in a bank or credit card, that’s if they ask.
