My non B expires on 3 Jan but I'm *still* waiting for my new WP and I'll then go to Penang to get my new visa.
- Am I right in thinking I just need to be out of Thailand before my visa expires on 3Jan, or do I need to have my new visa by that date? (Might not be possible due to closure dates)
- Does anyone know the closing dates of the consulate as I can only find the 2018 ones not for Jan 2019?
- Otherwise, my lawyer said he can just send me to Penang with paperwork saying my WP is in process and I can still get the visa... Does that sound right?!
Thanks a lot!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on their expiring NON B visa in Thailand, as they are waiting for their new work permit and plan to go to Penang for a visa renewal. They ask whether they must leave Thailand before the visa expiry or if having the new visa by then is necessary, along with inquiries about the consulate's closing dates and the feasibility of obtaining a new visa using paperwork from a lawyer. A comment clarifies that a letter from a lawyer won't suffice without a finalized work permit.
I guess you have a Single Entry Non Immigrant B visa stamped used when you entered Thailand and got a new stamp Admitted to Stay 3 Jan 2019. You can not visit Penang consulate with a letter from an lawyer sorry the Work Permit is still in process. To get a work permit takes much less than 3 months.
thank you. Yes I think number 3 is my option. Currently on a 1yr multiple entry but have to leave every 90 days, which I do anyway for work. Thanks again!

Option nr 3, the 1 year Non Immigrant B visa is a Multiple Entry Visa, so you can do another border run on or just before 3th Jan to get a new 90 day Admitted to Stay period.

You have 2 options. You can visit Immigration office before the 3th of Jan for a 1 year Extension of Stay based on working in Thailand or if you can not meet their requirements leave Thailand before 3th of Jan 23:59 and apply for a new visa at a Thai consulate.
yeah I checked their website also.. maybe they'll wait until new year ๐

I just looked at their website and the calendar with closing dates is not there. But here is the list of National Holidays in Thailand on which Government offices are closed.
thank you, I already have. My questions remain though - do I need to have my new visa before 3 Jan or just leave the country before that date. And does anyone know the 2019 closing dates for the Penang consulate?

Well, give him a call, get it done before 20 Dec that is why you paid him
