I am Swiss citizen on a retiree visa married to Thai wife. Our 20 year old son (Swiss passport only) is studying in USA. After his school shut down, he returned to Thailand to stay with us until school in USA starts again (maybe September).
He entered on a 30 day stamp. I am fully aware of our options in regards to visa amnesty, extensions etc.
My question is, given his mother is Thai and we both reside in Thailand, are there any longer term options for him than extending tourist visas?
Thanks for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question asks about longer-term visa options for a 20-year-old Swiss citizen, whose Thai mother resides in Thailand, after he entered on a 30-day tourist stamp. Comments suggest considering Thai citizenship due to the mother's nationality, exploring possibilities for a one-year extension of stay, and confirming specific visa entry details.

Thai passport is not an option at this stage. He was born in Japan and the whole process to get a passport would have to be started at the Thai embassy in Japan.
Furthermore not sure if a 20 year old still can get a Thai passport.
At this stage I simply need to know if there are other visa options than tourist visa.
But will try to get down your suggested route as well.
