Hi, has anyone applied for a non-o Thai visa in Vientiane recently?

Last I knew you had to make an appointment, no walk-ins allowed. But when I click the link for the website it says the domain has expired.

But if you want to apply for an e-visa I understand you have to be in Laos when you apply and it can take 10-15 days.

I’m just curious what other people have done concerning this?

Also, when applying for a follower visa in Laos has the original marriage/birth certificate been enough or do you need any sort of other paperwork providing proof of relationship?

Thanks in advance for any help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around applying for a NON-O Thai visa in Vientiane, noting that the visa process has recently shifted to an online e-visa system as of January 1st, eliminating in-person applications. It also touches upon the necessity of being present in the country when applying for an e-visa and mentions the potential need for in-person interviews or payments. Additionally, there are inquiries regarding the documentation required for a follower visa, specifically concerning whether an original marriage or birth certificate suffices or if additional proof of relationship is necessary.

I recommend going to a quiet place like Thakek (no queues, no one goes there, speedy process) getting your exemption stamp and then when the time comes you can either extend it for another two months (using your spouse) or you can convert it to a non-o single entry at your local immigration office. However all immigration offices are different, so go down there when you extend for 2 months and get all the info you need to change to a non-o spousal, this will give you 90 days single entry and you can then extend to 12 months at the same office.

The OP was asking about a “following” visa for the spouse which would mean their spouse is foreign not Thai.

yes spouse is not Thai would be a foreigner. But we applied for a non-o visa about 2 years ago. My husband was the visa holder and myself and my son were able to get a visa as a family member under my husband.

you can check at your local immigration office whether they will be able to convert an exemption stamp to a non-o based on having family members working in Thailand. I think it's possible. It will save you a lot of hassle with going to Laos and making appointments at embassies.

That’s not going to happen for a “spouse” dependent visa/extension.

Not sure what you are referring to a a “follower” visa.

sorry I mean the accompanying visa for a spouse and child of the person applying for a non-O

You’re not going to get an “accompanying” visa for a spouse in any consulate or embassy around this area. They stopped issuing those years ago. For a kid yes. I don’t know the specifics but their website should give details.

The only way these days to get a “piggyback” visa for a spouse is if the main visa holder applies for a Non OA visa in their home country - which requires a health check, police check and insurance. Then the embassy may issue a Non O to the spouse. Not all will.

Actually forgot about the DTV option. Spouses can apply for a dependent visa if the main visa holder has a DTV. Not so it they have a Non O.

All changed on January 1st when all consulates and embassies switched to using the evisa system. No longer can you go “in person” to one and apply. You apply online. You need to be in the country from where you are applying through. Although it’s an online application and you could theoretically be anywhere in the world they will want proof that you are there and in some cases may ask for in person interviews or in person payment.
