Hi Group. I am a bit confused about the SETV and METV. From what I read here: SETV gives me 60 days that I can extend to 90 at immigration (UE passport). METV seems to give you 60+30 renewable twice so up to 9 months (with 2 runs) but must be applied for in country of origin with roughly 5,000 USD in bank account.

I am going to Vientiane by land. I need the 60 days + 30 but I have to leave Thailand (not visa related) before the 60 days expire (and i will be back before they are expired). Can I get a re-entry within these 60 days so I don't have to apply for a new single entry visa? Shall i ask for it in Vientiane (if possible) or will my visa be "burned" once i enter Thailand or may i get a re-entry at airport when I leave in 3 weeks.

You probably won't be able to get an METV in VTE unless you live there. Also, with an METV you can come and go as many times as you please

As a general rule you can only get a 6 month METV from a thai consulate in the country your passport is from OR a country you hold legal residence in.

The exception to that is at the thai consulates in Australia. They'll issue one to almost anyone who meets the financial requirements.

you could get a single entry tourist visa in Vientiane, enter they country, get stamped in for 60 days, then you could get a re-entry permit (either at the immigration office or at the airport when you fly out) so that when you returned you'd be stamped in until the original 60 day expiration date AND you could extend that by 30 days if you needed to as well.

A single re-entry permit is 1000baht at the immigration office.
