May be of interest - there's someone claiming on Reddit that they were asked for proof of funds today in Phnom Penh when applying for a tourist visa, specifically a bank statement, despite the person apparently having 60,000 baht cash in hand. 

May be lacking in other relevant details, but if true it could be a disturbing change, at least from that particular embassy.

this is about Thai Visa. From personal experience I can confirm that it is very easy to get Business visa for Cambodia at border and the extensions inside Cambodia.

Made a visa at poipet border 3 months ago (ordinary), np, thai gf np, our 2 dogs, np, extend that visa to 1 year multi-entry, np. Its very easy to get visa for cambodia, even at poipet border.

my mistake, you are correct, they not specify if cash or Bank Book, just Evidence of adequate finance

Single-Entry Tourist Visa: $1000 per person and $2000 per family

Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa: $8,000 per person (6 months of financial statements).

- I'm sorry but please point out where it said one has to provide bank statements for a SETV. It only says proof of funds for SETV but asks for financial bank statemented 6 months for METV not same,

Duncan Riley please explain. I did not try to sell anything on here, just a verification that people need to show Bank Statement for tourist visa application at the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh and with 5 minutes of google this person would have known the requirement. .

Interesting - I wasnt aware PP needed bank account proof of funds for a SETV, never heard if this, nonwhere else in the region does (and I know from experience :) ). Is this a unique PP thing?

Gradually since 2015 there has been a consistent push for more rigid enforcement of the existing criteria (as they are written in law) and more subjective inspection of the applicants entry history.

Immigration and Embassy are completely different entities and have different rules.

60,000 would have been fine for proof of funds entering into Thailand, but applying for a visa the rule is you need to show a bank statement.

I was referring to the actual post on Reddit. The guy has gone to the embassy under the presumption that the 'cash' rule of immigration applies to the consular process of getting a visa.
