Hi, is a multiple re-entry permit linked to a VISA? I already renewed my guardian VISA and I need to leave Thailand for a week. My old VISA and my old multiple entry permit will still be valid by the time I come back. Do I need another reentry permit because I renewed the VISA ? Thanks for your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When you renew your visa in Thailand, it affects your re-entry permit status. Even if your old re-entry permit is still valid, you will need to obtain a new re-entry permit linked to the renewed visa/extension of stay. This is because re-entry permits are tied to the duration of the visa extension.
okay you didn't renew anything, and I'd bet the new stamp in your passport says "extension of stay permitted until" and has date.. That's not a visa, that's an extension,
The way the immigration office seems to interpret it IS
Because re-entry permits are tied to extensions (being valid for the term of the extension they're issued for; Once you get a new extension you need a new re-entry permit (even if you're leaving comin' back during the time the OLD reentry permit is still valid for).
SO go get a new re-entry permit and it will be good for the extension you have now
Thank you Tod. You are right. I went to immigration and 2 different officers confirmed the same. The permits are tied to extensions so I need to do another one... makes no sense to me but, it is what it is ๐
