To re-cap ANYONE (except people on extensions of stays) can be asked for proof of funds.

That people haven't been asked is no guarantee you won't be asked so be prepared.

Also something to note, the money exchange booths before immigration run by real banks like SCB, Kasikorn etc all have Logos on their windows for VIsa, Mastercard etc so should be able to do a cash advance. However they all point blank refuse to do their actual job. Last time I passive aggressively took photos of their credit card logos on their booths :-)

keep in mind the only people who are not listed in the rule to show the 3 proof ofz are people on extensions of stays (yearly, 90day, etc) anyone else can indeed be asked, although the chance of being asked on any Non-Immigrant visa of any type is slim indeed.

so just in case, wear the equivalent of 20K Baht on you. But with a Multi Re Entry Visa chances are near nil. They mostly ask people who enter with a 30-day exempt or travellers with many visa already in their passports

Only cash works when you are asked at passport control on entry. Gold, Platinum nor Black card cannot work.

 you are correct, the people usually asked for proof of funds are people who have extensive histories of living here on back-2-back visa exempt or tourist visa entries. NOT on people with Non-Immigrant Type visas

Keep in mind there are no ATM machines air side <- that means there's NO way to get cash BEFORE you clear passport control when entering thailand.

IF you are asked for proof of funds the immigration officers will NOT allow you to walk to the ATM's just after you stamp in to make a transaction

yet it is always advisable to bring some Cash in foreign curreny like 800 USD / Euros/ GBP and exchange it at the basement of Suvarnabhumi Airport where the "Railway Link" is, at one of the private money changers. So you have some Thai currency at hand for the first few days of stay
