Hi

I have a non immigrant O-X visa and go back and forth to the UK roughly every 6 months for 6 months. Last time I turned up to do the 90 report I was advised not required and come back in 5 years. No issues on leaving or returning. 

I am due a 90 days report in early January for this trip but don’t want to waste my time again in immigration. 

Does anyone know if I do or don’t need to report ?

You only need a valid 90 day report (TM47) and TM30 when you do something with immigration. Given your visa type, you have no reason to interact with immigration and therefore don't need to worry about these things.

only here for 3 months after the 90 requirement but if family requirements change then I will stay. Just don’t want to be in the bad books as like hoping around

thanks for this. If I wanted you to secure a Thai driving license ( although I have a 3 year international driving licence ) would I then need to do the 90 day report or is this still outside of interaction with immigration

be aware that even though your international driving permit may be valid for 3 years it's only good for 3 months from the date you enter Thailand, after that you need a Thai driving license.

just checked and it states 1 year if from the UK although some insurance may become void after 3 months. I have the time so perhaps just get it done

trust me,when the policesee your IDP they will tell you that you need a Thai licence ...and fine you 500 bht.

checked where? The insurance is the real problem, I'm not aware of any that will honour an IDP beyond 3 months. I'm sure it will be fine for cursory police checks but you don't want an insurance claim being denied.

yes that's the problem, the international driving permit is valid for ayear, but in Thailand you must have a Thai driving licence after 3 months or insurance is invalid.

The driving licence is easy to obtain with the international permit.

technically yes you'll still need a residence permit from immigration. But if they're the ones who told you that you don't need to do it then difficult to do so
