TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirements for a COVID extension in Thailand vary by office. While some offices may request a letter from the embassy or a plane ticket, not all do. Essential documents typically required include a signed copy of your passport data page, a passport photo, proof of a TM30 filing, a signed TM6 departure card copy, and a filled-out TM7 application form. Specific offices may have unique stipulations, like those in Phuket which require documents to be formatted in portrait. If it's your first extension, the stamp will start from the application date.
i have 6 of these never asked about a letter from embassy

Youâll need this stuff. Not all offices have the same requirements so it may be slightly different depending on which of the 70+ offices you use.
A copy of your passport data page (signed),
A passport photo,
Proof of filing a TM30,
A copy of your departure card (TM6) (signed)
A copy of your latest entry stamp (signed)
A copy of any previous Covid extension stamps (signed) (Phuket requires this other offices may not)
In Phuket they require the copies to be in portrait not landscape. This means the top of your passport aligns along the shorter side of the A4. Except for the Data Page where most passports are âsidewaysâ
(Other offices may not be as pedantic)
A filled out TM7 (application form for extensions) - the form doesnât have a space for your email or phone number but just write it on the back (page 2).
A filled out STM2 (acknowledgement of terms of temporary stay)
A filled out âI donât want to leave because of Covid formâ - I have no idea if it has an official name or number.
And 1,900 baht.
The forms are available at your local office. Most have places on site or nearby that can do the copies and photos.
Many offices will give you a âunder considerationâ stamp requiring you to return somewhere from 5-14 days later where they will stamp for the remaining 60 days. If they do you MUST use the same office to âclose outâ that stamp. For example you cannot get a âunder considerationâ stamp from Bangkok and close that out in Chiang Mai 15 days later.
If itâs your first time applying for the extension theyâll date it from the day you apply, so youâd lose any remaining days you have on your current stamp. Subsequent applications would possibly be added on to the existing stamp.
the regular extension of 30 days is very unlikely to be denied.
I also did mine in Samui 11 days before current expiry with no issues. Have never been asked for a departure flight from there or Phangan for covid extensions (though I know never say never).
For a recommendation seen as youâre close, Phangan immigration are very relaxed in terms of extensions like this. Providing you attend the office in appropriate clothing, wear a mask and bring the correct information/signed etc Iâve never seen anyone denied thus far.
Iâm not sure what you mean. I donât know the actual figure but am guessing that approval rates for a visa exempt extension is higher than 99%. To my knowledge the only people refused are the nationalities that arenât allowed to extend off a visa exempt entry. (Hong Kong and Vietnam)
Oh ok. Basically yes, most offices allow for you to apply up to 30 days prior. However if you try it in Pattaya (perhaps some others) theyâll tell you to come back near to the date of your existing stamp.
You need to have applied for the regular 30 day extension first. The last day to apply for a Covid extension (currently) is July 25th. That date may or may not be extended. No one knows as yet.
