So I have a question for my son ( he’s not on Facebook)  He is heading for Thailand to do some extended travelling leaving May 9 from Canada. His plans were to get a multi entrance visa. But now he has to fly back in September to Canada for a wedding. He will then stay home for about a month or so and then will return to Thailand. We realize now that the multiple entry only lasts 6 months. So would it work for him to do a single entry for the first trip and then when he is home then reapply for a multiple entry so he can spend the extended time there?? He would do the 60 days and then extend it each time for another 30 to maximize his time. Also going to go to Cambodia after his first entry and will fly back from there. Thanks for any insight into this!

sounds like you understand how the METV works, when applying you'll need to show proof of the need for multiple entry by supplying the planned itinerary out and back into Thailand. Enjoy.

will do. He will have a plane ticket bought that can be changed to prove that he is leaving Thailand when it’s time. Then if he gets a month extension he will change his ticket to leave and re enter.

the day you arrive in Thailand is day 1, so calculate the outbound flight date carefully.

he won't be asked for onward travel when he enters thailand with that METV or on the SETV either

he's gonna be asked to prove he's leaving thailand and coming back in to "deserve" the 6 month METV <- they have a warning as soon as you click multiple entry tourist visa on the eVisa website that you show WHY you need an METV or they sell you a single and keep the difference in fees

thanks for that info!! So he wants to travel around and possibly do a bit of volunteering. He has been to Thailand twice before, but was there last year about this time and did make some Thai friends that he wants to visit as well. Any tips to what the perfect answer would be?

the perfect answer would be to have his ticket to thailand and then 60 days after that have a ticket to say Kuala Lumpur (or any country in S/E Asia he could get in to without a visa) and then a few days after that have the ticket booked back to thailand 🙂

That shows WHY he needs multi-entry. He's leaving and coming back. Once he gets the visa approved cancel the flights

Doesn't matter in the least what he "wants" to do, it matters what it seems like he's going to do 🙂
