Can my friend from Australia get a 30-day extension on a visa exempt stamp without an embassy letter?

Hi,

My friend from Australia is trying to get a 30 day extension on his 30day visa exempt stamp at Cheangwattana. First extension on this stamp. He went and was told he needs a letter from embassy to get 30days, otherwise he will only get 7 days. This sounds very weird to me. Is it correct?

Okay, he had a lost in translation or some other moment out there.

IF he's on a 30 day visa exempt entry he can get a 30 day NORMAL extension without the letter from the consulate.

It's the "second" extension on a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa that has already been extended for 30 days that requires the embassy letter and is issued for up to 30 days.

 update on this one, he went today and got the 30days, no questions. As mentioned I think that on the previous visit they may have mistaken an old extension for current.

Should be able to get 30 days the first time without a letter. That's the normal rule.

Some offices now allowing a 2nd 30-day extension with no letter, but contact the office to check first.

 defenitley the Australian way. Given the news today out of Sydney that the majority of new Covid cases are Aussies returning from cruises, you would think they would be jumping over themselves to keep us away if we can ride it out elsewhere..

This is the latest advisory on the Australian Embassy website, it appears they are starting to accept that some Australians cant or don't want to return to Australia. But they ask you initially try to resolve the matter with Thai immigration directly.

Perhaps tell your friend to email them, advise he has been unsuccessful & requires a letter from them?

I will be trying this first week of April.. Good Luck!

there is no 30 day extension on a Non-B :/ you either extend it for a year with documents from your employer or you get the letter from your consulate and get an unable to travel due to covid-19 extension for up to 30 days.

Read more in this group today regarding "under consideration" but it does sound to me like he was given the wrong stamp. 30 days is normal, but that has changed to "15 days under consideration" as the normal in the past 48 hours.
