Hey guys, does anyone know if it's possible to travel to Thailand with new passport and a DTV issued on the old passport? The old passport punched to make it invalid by the embassy when the new passport was issued and returned back since it contains valid visas. 

I know in many countries you can travel with both old and new passports and the visas in old passport is considered valid, but not sure how it is in Thailand. Is it required to transfer DTV to the new passport before travelling?

DTV visa is an e-visa. Shouldn’t be a problem. I’d carry a print out of the visa.

not all DTV visas are evisa.it depends on the embassy.

In the coming months, more and more consulates will be switching to the e-visa system and we can assume by sometime next year, that's all there will be left.

some embassies aren't using e-Visa yet and issuing physical visas only (e.g. Jakarta). Many other embassies only recently changed to e-Visa (e.g. HCMC). Assume that is what OP is talking about and he has physical only.

To OP, very likely need to transfer to the new passport, but should just be a simple trip to immigration office.

You present both passports. Immigration won't transfer visas. They will only transfer extensions of stay, obtained in country and you would do that through your assigned immigration office only.

If your passport expires with a valid DTV in it, you carry the old passport along with the new passport whenever you enter and exit Thailand.

I've done that before with a non-O multiple entry visa. The only time I got my visa (actually extension of stay) transferred was when I had an in country non-O 1 year extension, which was then transferred to my new passport. That took up 3 pages in my passport! They copied all the previous extensions as well.

That's my understanding too that I'll need to carry both my passports for the entire duration of DTV and each time I enter the new passport gets stamped with 180 days

That's right, not issued as e-visa but as physical stamp in the old passport.

My question is if I can travel with both new and old passport and show the DTV in old passport to get a 180 day entry. That will help me save some time and can avoid a trip to Thailand embassy to transfer the visa to new passport before my travel

some country (like France) take a stupid long time to make you a passport, I remember waiting two months for mine, so maybe anonymous guy just don’t want to be far away from Thailand for so long

Then I would have asked about the possibility of transferring my visa into a new passport prior to applying for one using my old passport, knowing I will be getting a new one really soon

that’s another issue, I remember seeing conversation about it in this group and it was possible, firstly you ask when you change passport to keep the old one for visa then you enter the country and show the two passport then go immigration and ask for a transfer if possible

No, immigration won't transfer visa stickers obtained at consulates abroad. They'll turn you away and tell you to travel with both the old and new passport.

It seems possible based on others who entered with their valid Non O visas in old passport. I guess it would be the same for DTV
