Hi,

I have been with my Thai partner for nearly 6 years, we plan to marry later, my question is i have always traveled to Thailand on a tourist visa and i was wondering if i could qualify for a 90 day or 1-Year Non-Immigrant Visa and if so what what requirements are there. Thanks

After you get married legally you can get a type O visa extension based on Thai wife, initially for 90 days, then with bt400,00 in a Thai bank account in your name only for over two months, you can apply for the one year extension. Initially there is a lot of paperwork, but as long as you make and keep copies of everything, in following years you only need updated bank letters, and new pictures. Everything else is the same, unless you move. Then you get a multi-entry re-entry permit, and you can come and go in and out of the country as much as you want.

Once married (or have a Thai kid) you are able to get 60 day extension to any entry for visiting Thai family after using the usual 30 day extension. So tourist visa gives you 60+30+60. An entry with visa exempt allows you 30+30+60

Some Immigration Offices only allow the 60 days, I've only ever got the 60 days, never both.

save the 60 visiting family extension to the very end of your stay - apply for the regular 30 day extension first

You cant get both extentions on 1 visa/visa exempt. It's 60 days if you have Thai dependants or 30 if you dont!

Are you certain about this? I follow the other Thai visa forum very closely and the experts there have discussed this extension at length. Perhaps its just visa exempt that its only 1 or the other. Will need to do some more digging. For single entry tourist visa the advice is 60 + 30 + 60 = 150 day

Sure. 3 times I've had the 'thai dependant relative' 60 days, that's all Immigration gave me, they wouldn't give 30 days first and then 60 days.

It would be a good idea to find out why you were specially declined the regular 30 day extension. Perhaps you needed to put "Tourism" as the reason for that extension if you asked for it first. I can kind of see why they might had declined you if you had stated the purpose for that extension was to see Thai family.
