My parents are visiting us from the US and got a 30 day visa but are actually staying 37 days. We thought it would be simple enough to extend it a week but it’s actually becoming quite complicated. They are flying to Chiang Mai on Sunday which is the day their visa expires and it looks like we aren’t going to be able to get the extension approved before then. Is this something they can do at the airport? What are the consequences if their tourist visa lapses before we get it figured out? Any tips on getting the extension? I have a 3 week old baby and feel like my head is spinning trying to figure this out!

You could take them to the Chiang Mai immigration office on Monday and they can get their 30 day extensions for 1900baht

Because their 30 day visa exempt entry stamp (they DON'T have ANY visa) expires on a Sunday, they can show up on Monday and not get charged for overstay

The rule is IF your extension expires on a day the immigration office is closed (weekends or holidays) AND you got the very next day the office is open you are not charged for overstay, and you get your extension like normal ..

okay in BANGKOK they are NOT asking for TM30 receipt when people on a 30 day visa exempt entry are applying for a 30 day extension.

They need a:

Filled out TM7 application for extension with 1 passport sized photo

copies of

the data page of their passport

the entry stamp

the TM6 departure card

1900baht.

Who told you that you needed these extra documents?

Where do you and your parents stay at the moment? Who are the people mentioned as They had a list and why did they not explain you how to acquire those documents. All you need is a copy of the ID page of the passport, copy of the entry stamp, copy of the TM6 Departure card, 1 passport picture and 1.900 Thb fee. As long as you have a passport, than the copy machines are easy to find in Thailand.

 We live in Nichada (nonthanburi) in a rental house. They will also bring their reservations for Chiang mai hotel since hotels seem to have less rigorous requirements for tourist visa extensions 🤷‍♀️

But live gets confusing if it is your house, but the landlord is out of the country and the property manager calls immigration. Just take the documents as I mention and go to Immigration. Good luck

 They are saying they need the deed to our house, forms filled out by our landlord (who is out of the country), and a copy of the landlords id. We are just going to go with what we have and hope for the best.

a 7 days to leave the country start counting from today is not really the solution of the problem, I guess it makes it only worse.

I guess your talking about the TM30 right.

Who said the rules changed??

The best thing you can do is go to immigration tomorrow bright and early.

Take with you (parents to take)

Copy of passport.

Copy of TM6 (departure card)

2 x passport photo

1900thb each for a 30 day extension.

Worst case scenario will be that the extension will be denied and they will receive a 7 day extension (not an extension but additional time to leave the country)

This should keep them up to date with stamps in their passports.

 we were planning on going today but they had a list of additional documents that we didn’t have and didn’t know how to acquire. We already gathered several things including forms signed by our landlord but they said the rules recently changed.

Go tomorrow to CW, to go on a trip to Chian Mai while on overstay will end up in in disater. You parents might arrested, locked up in prison, send to IDC. And deported and blacklisted.

 They have been here about 27 days and are leaving in 10 days. They are in Bangkok with us now but planned a side trip to Chiang mai (day 30-34) and then will leave to return to US at 1AM on day 37.
