Hi, is it still possible for a US passport holder to enter Thailand on a 30 day visa exemption and then extend for another 30 days in immigration there? I've read some reports that this is no longer the case.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, a US passport holder can enter Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption and extend it for another 30 days at immigration. However, it's now necessary to provide a TM30 receipt for the extension. There have been recent discussions about stricter immigration checks and potential new requirements due to COVID-19, but generally, the extension is still permitted as before.
untill November 26th, if you have used up the standard 30 day extension already in most cases, but immigration in some places is getting tougher now and demanding to see proof you can't really fly out or seeing that you have a flight booked later already.

Sure can. The only difference between now and then is that you need to produce a TM30 receipt
Beth Mac Deb Pati may be an Indian national and as such, basing his answer on incorrect terminology, may be partially right if he thinks he's refeing to the visa on arrival (15 days non extendable not 30bdays) as opposed to the visa exempt scheme. Anyway. He's wrong,
I've been getting so annoyed at so many posts lately saying this same exact thing. I even asked someone else before where they heard it because it's never been reported in any of the FB groups I'm on
but every time it's been posted here it's been corrected and never left to stand with the wrong information. Not a single time during all of Covid has what the op said been the case.
