If you get a DTV visa, how do taxes end up working between the US and Thailand? Do you get to deduct your Thai taxes from the US? Or your US taxes from your Thai taxes? I am trying to compare this scenario with the idea of working under iglo and paying them 30% but it including the thai taxes.
As a US citizen, do retirees pay taxes in Thailand?
Income earned inside Thailand during retirement is the only income subject to tax, while personal income from pension, interest, or other income sources in your home country is not subject to income tax in Thailand. This creates a 100% tax-free retirement in Thailand.
After reading the Tax Treaty between the US and Thailand, it specifically states that social security income and govt pensions can only be taxed by the US unless you become a resident AND a Thai national. A tax resident who lives in Thailand greater than 180 days is not a Thai National. See Article 20 and 21.
