This group has been very helpful so I'm giving back my application details:
DTV approved today ( soft power - Discover Thai Nature ) via Los Angeles embassy. USA citizen, Applied on Feb 2, approved Feb 14 ( 10 days ).
I was not asked for any additional documents.
My physical and mailing address are in different states, so my bank statements show a different address than the address I confirmed with my utility bill. I thought it might be an issue, but it was not.
I'm retired and do not work ( mid 40s, so I thought this might raise flags). I selected 'retired' in the application. My bank checking statements do show a stable 'income' every month from investments.
I submitted 6 months of bank statements, the last statement showed more than the required 500,000THB and the 5 before showed close to it. I highlighted the totals at the end of the month in the PDF, and joined them into one PDF. I wanted to make this as simple as possible for the person reviewing it.
In addition, even though I know it's not required I also submitted my investment summary page ( I attached it to the joined PDF of my bank statements on the last page ). On the summary page I highlighted the amount invested that showed I could live a long time on the funds. Again, I didn't think I'd get denied by having this extra statement, and thought it could possibly help. Weather or not it did, i'll never know.
I wear glasses that do not obstruct my face and kept them on the photo that I submitted in the application.
I needed to wait until today to post this. But I went through immigration in Bangkok yesterday with my new DTV Visa I got in Ho Chi Ming. My husband went through with no issue in another line. When I went to a different immigration officer. He looked at me with a nasty look as a passed my passport. Then when I handed him my printed DTV Visa he pushed it back at me and said "I didn't ask for that". I just smiled and said Okay. Then he asked for it again. This time he said "Why did you get your Visa in Vietnam and not the USA". I said because I was told I could get it in Vietnam. He then said Yes, but it's not right. Who told you to go to Vietnam. I said the person who I'm attending the Course with.
He then said "Course are you running a Race". I said "Correction, Seminar". Then he raised his voice a little and said "What are you doing in my Country" you have been in and out for 2 years. I said yes, I have and I've never overstayed and I leave for 2-4 months at a time. I love Thailand and I have decided to get a Visa so that I can stay longer. He said louder this time. I Love Thailand too Why are you in my country. At this point I am pissed but I remain calm and I say. At this point nothing I say will satisfy you, and I don't like the way you are yelling at me please let me speak to a supervisor.
He looked at me with an evil look and said follow me. We went to another line with a female and he said things to her and then walked passed me and said Stay here, I looked and him smiled and said Thank you.
I get to the lady she ask me some questions after looking at my paperwork and passport. And asked me how long I plan to be here I said I'm leaving in July for 1 month then I will be back. I'm signed up for a seminar and the month I'm gone I will be able to do it online so that I don't fall behind.
She then stamped my passport for 6 month and said have a good day.
I have never experienced that the whole time I have been in Thailand. Now that I have a valid Visa I get treated like trash. It really put a nasty taste in my mouth. And after the wonderful time I had in Vietnam I may consider that as a place to live.
Has anyone else been treated bad coming into Bangkok with the DTV?
Would love to hear experiences of anyone who's been living in Thailand and recently succeeded (or failed!) in getting a DTV visa via Kuala Lumpur. Many thanks.
Applied Embassy Washington DC. After one week asked for additional paperwork. This included tax returns and a letter stating self-employed as digital nomad.
Two weeks to the date, today received the approval.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. The process is very straightforward. Just in time for my flight leaving in 10 days🙌
I arrived in Thailand on a DTV Visa, but my experience with the immigration officer was quite frustrating. The officer asked me seemingly irrelevant questions, such as, 'What are you doing here?' I explained that I work online and came to stay in Thailand. Then he asked, 'Why don’t you live in your own country and work there?' I responded that I enjoy living in Thailand. Lastly, he questioned why I applied for my visa in another country instead of my home country. The whole interaction felt unnecessarily complicated.
Hi, just sharing in case it’s helpful for someone.
I entered Thailand with a DTV in September, and a week ago, I went for a short holiday to Hong Kong and returned to Thailand again with the same DTV. The process was smooth and easy, and immigration was kind with no questions asked.
