We will be traveling from the US to Bangkok early November. We will be in Bangkok for 21 days and then going to Singapore for four days then back to Bangkok for 30 days. What kind of visa would you recommend we get? Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
For American travelers visiting Thailand, you can enter the country under the Visa Exempt Entry, which allows for a 30-day stay with just a passport stamp. You will receive another 30-day stamp upon re-entering Thailand after your trip to Singapore. Make sure to have proof of onward travel when checking in for your flights.
clear and concise manner in answers.. thank you . Totally for newbies like me , it's a great help , especially with the maze of confusion that Thai visas can sometimes be.

As you have a passport from the USA, you are eligible for the Visa Exempt Entry into Thailand, which gives you a 30 day STAMP.
AND when you reenter Thailand from your trip to Singapore you will again be stamped in for 30 days as Visa Exempt Entry.
Be sure to have tickets for your planned trips to show airline staff on check-in for your flights..IF ASKED.
AND Thai Immigration Officers if they ask.
Enjoy your trips to Thailand.
