TLDR : Answer Summary
To visit Thailand for 3 months, your friend can either apply for a Tourist Visa which initially allows for a 60-day stay, with a potential 30-day extension, or consider a Non-O Visa if he is over 65 and receives a state pension, allowing a 90-day stay. The e-Visa is currently the primary method for obtaining a visa, as access to Thai embassies and consulates is restricted. For practical assistance, he can use services like Scott's Visas. If he struggles with technology, he can get help from local computer shops for online applications.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
The E-Visa can be a nightmare, after painstaking application, the timeline 10-15 days can take weeks withno provisions to check status,in process only info.phone calls -emails no response.
I originally got my Visa at the consulate (Toronto Canada 🇨🇦)Drop off my passport/application/$fee.at 11 am and pick up next day 11am(24 hrs simple)When Covid arrived they closed the consulate and went to the online E-Visa.Last yr after weeks of waiting I finally received via email 30 hrs prior to departure. Some Canadians on my flight to Bangkok never even received their E-Visa.It’s so frustrating.

I'm from Cardiff and did 3 months in Thailand this year and am booked from March to May next year. Its easy enough really. Apart from a retirement visa his option for 3 months (easiest but not quickest) 30 on arrival 30 day extention (only 1 a4 sheet super simple and so many tourists there willing to help) then a si.ple boarder bounce quick stamp on book and ur off. This year I'm getting a 60 day visa online (only pain is you have to reduce pic size but apart from that its just a pic of ya passport etc. Then ill get the 30 day extention.
i agree, considering thai economy is based on tourism it does seem strange however when I was there in march they extended the visa on arrival from 30 days to 45 (now back to 30) and if you have a look online they are talking about visa on arrival for 60 or 90 days for UK passport holders but not sure when this will happen.
uk give my ex wife a uk passport good luck for her but why thai make it so hard

Fill in what He can then take Him to a photo shop , get digital photo taken and sent to His e mail address in j peg size . Go to a computer shop and for a few quid they'll sort it for Him .
He will also need a e mail with His room booking . Which the computer shop can then shrink to jpeg site . Also take passport as same thing again , photo jpeg . Sounds complicated ( was for me ) but for IT type guys its a breeze .
Needs somekind of proof . Less messing about i think if He books a hotel , gets the e mail confirmation . Then cancel it once he has visa through . If He states He has His own place might get complicated .
Hi you can use Scott’s visas. They are very good they will do it all for him , they are a London based agent , can get all the contact details on Google

Hey it's only been 6 month's waiting for my evisa so yeah.
scanning documents requested is perhaps best option, but many tools available to convert pictures (jpegs) to the required .pdf ..followup questions , even text "letters" have to be done in .pdf format as well..
basically, anybody still working in an office environment would be familiar with such conversions.
actually I submitted all of my documents to the WDC office as jpegs and had no problems.
FYI if you have problems setting up an account with you current email address as I did, once I got a Gmail account everything worked perfectly.

In waiting for my multi entry (as I was this time last year)..request for further documents was completed , and since you mentioned G-mail , it is what I use almost exclusively. One of the "further documentation) was a trip itinerary..which I composed with google docs which has the ability to be saved in .pdf format..
In any event, prior ME visas do not make any difference, apparently ..as the same queries are always asked..and Last year's still appears on the interface .
I entered anyway under Visa Exempt and will request extension identically as I did least year ..the ME visa was delivered (by gmail) just as I was about to go to local Immigration..and since I am in Chiang Rai..opted to get the extension..and easily thereafter exited in Chiang Klong and rentereted thus initiating the actual ME visa..
The process , at least out of Canadian offices takes a considerable amount of time, and can be frustrating. Golen Rule , though is maintain composure and comply to any request officially , clearly ..and without opinion.
