What should I consider when applying for a Chiang Mai Muay Thai ED visa while planning to travel to Laos?

Hi. I’ve decided I want to do the Chiang Mai Muay Thai ed visa, but my visa expires in January and I have a flight to Tokyo to see a friend. The application process takes between 7-9 weeks, and wont be ready by the time I have to leave the country.

My solution is to fly to Laos when I know my application is ready and pay a visa run service to meet me Friendship Bridge in Vientiane and give me my documents here in Laos and apply at the embassy.

I have one visa exempt stamp w/ extension, and one tourist visa stamp in my passport (USA).

Is there any reason why this isn’t a good idea or does have any other suggestions?

Ps. A lot of the Ed visa are getting extra time. There were about 45 people held up from my groups for 3 days. Allow yourself some extra time if going to Vientiane

but leaving Thailand, while the school copies the needed documents and use a courier to bring those to you at the Thai Consulate is not a bad idea

Application only takes 1 day, you apply in the morning and you get your visa and passport back the following day in the afternoon
