Attention members, totally new queue up system outside the immigration office at Chaengwattana.
Now you can't even get into the building until 6 in the morning so people queue up outside. At 6 they let us in and we get into a queue that has stanchions to make sure people don't cut the line.
At 7 and immigration officer comes out and opens a temporary queue number machine and hands them out based on where you are in the line. Even though I was 28th in line I got queue number 66 and 67, because the agents that are here can ask for multiple queue numbers for their customers.
At 8 we get back in line according to our queue number and at 8:30 they let us enter the immigration office in that order to get a real queue number for the section we need.
It seems like it will stop line jumpers, but I guess I'll find out at 8:30

TLDR : Answer Summary
A new queue system has been implemented at the Chaengwattana immigration office in Thailand, requiring people to queue outside starting at 6 AM. This system is designed to prevent line jumping, as immigration officers distribute temporary queue numbers at 7 AM based on the line's order. The official queue begins at 8:30 AM. Comments from users highlight improvements in the process, although there are still concerns about agents receiving preferential treatment and occasional computer issues.
So even if you go later when there is no queue, you now take your own queue number from a machine instead of at the counter? Is that correct? And if so, I presume are there are several machines for different visas? Thanks for clarification on this.
If you go after they open the doors at 8:30 you go inside to get the queue number from the counter like always. It's only if you get there before they open that you get a temporary queue number which is your place in line to get in the door once they open.

No you still go the counter and get a ticket like always. That is just for when you go in the morning hours before it opens š

I did a 30 SETV extension yesterday (On a Monday), got there at 12:45, got my ticket (+-80 people in front of me), went for lunch and walked out of there about 4h30. 3 Hours were not too bad for a Monday:-)

Great to see them making improvements. Makes a big change from everyone lounging around and a row of books, documents and shoes doing the queueing. I used to get there as early as I could in the morning but now I always go in the afternoon for my Non-B and find the process is quick enough. Never more than 2 hours really.

I have to say; after going out to Chaengwattana over 200+ times in the last 7+ years that this pre-queue outside system is GIANT improvement.
I give them 3 thumbz up (y) (y) (y)

The computer to check if people are blacklisted is still down, no one has got their passports back yet :(
, I asked her how many people who are black listed have tried to apply for a visa or extension out there and she said none because of the great computer program. :O
That sign says they check your documents first and give you the results after.
They took the sign about the computers crashing down. Thankfully they are back up and running

Yep, went there last week. Entered through the back entrance since my taxi driver got lost and was told to leave the building again to get in the queue outside.

Why is it so? They need to recruit more officer. So many ppl and so few booths.

I always went after the lunch hour was over...never waited long at all
Bennie *******
Frankly, why queue at all? Go at 10, no queue, sit down and relax until your number is up....
. Thank you. What's a rough taxis fare on to immigration from those two places?
Bennie *******
MRT to Chattuchak Park or BTS to Mo Chit BTS, then taxi or van to Immigration

Steve Kaposi. Saying you catch a van,is that public transport? I spend almost 500thb there and back for 90 day reporting and would like to have a cheaper option.

I've always showed by around 11:00 - 11:15 and am in and out in under 20 minutes...
Steve ********
exactly, ive always gotten there around 10 and just wait a couple of hours. I catch a van there so have to wait for a free seat anyway and cannot wake up at 5am anyway lol
Bennie *******
Never had to wait till after lunch. Admittedly, I have been there lately only for 90-day reports, which I now do online.

If you go at 10, you are likely to have to wait through the lunch break

Depends what you're there for I guess; some processes are longer and the corresponding counters might have bigger queues.

yeah I've gone in at 1-2pm, never been there for more than an hour

Well, i got two numbers and my friend isn't here yet either so i guess i can't complain
they do not get numbers, they have the paperwork in order and pass direct to the officer in that section. It's good for the officer too, all is double checked and correct beforehand.
Richard *********
Do you have to be an "agent" to get multiple numbers? Or could anyone ask for say 25?
Robert ********
So is this an improvement or pretty much the status quo?

The fact that the agents can still receive special treatment is an indication of how screwed up the system remains.
Glen *********
And where do we find those agents?

exactly why I pay an agent
