TLDR : Answer Summary
Americans can obtain various visa options for Thailand with differing durations. The longest is the Elite Visa, available for 5 to 20 years, but requires substantial financial investment. For those over 50, the OA visa offers a one-year stay. Tourists may consider the METV, which allows multiple entries for up to 9 months over a 6-month period. The visa duration begins from the date of entry into Thailand.

where did he say he thought he would get special treatment? He's simply telling where he is from. Almost every thread about visas asks for country of origin.

I think you're right. My teacher always said that you can tell a person's intelligence more by the questions they ask than by the answers.🙈

well effectively visas differ by country on arrival! However the elite visa is the same for any nationality!

How long do you want to stay in Thailand? If you're a tourist then the best or easiest option to stay a while is probably the METV which is a multiple entry tourist visa where you get stamped in for 60 days each time you enter, this is valid for 6months. You can stay almost 9 months with this visa if timed perfectly, add a few land border runs at the end and you could stay a year.

Otherwise there's the expensive options others have posted.

There's nothing special about Americans visa-wise.

The longest realistic visa you can get if you're over 50 would probably be the OA visa which is one year.

The elite visa can be anywhere from 5-20 years.

LTR visa is 10 years.
