Crossing over from Laos to Thailand at the friendship bridge at Mukdahan.

1) Is there a bus or a tuk tuk once on the Thai side to get me to Mukdahan bus station then to BKK? 

2) How early, should I get to Mukdahan bus station trying to catch the earliest bus to BKK since it’s a 12 hr Journey …Is there a bus leaving for BKK once or twice a day (schedule)? I Try checking 12GoAsia but nothing showed up. Planning to cross the border on April 20.

For those worried when doing border runs….When you’re in queue to get stamped into Thailand 🇹🇭 or any where. Avoid old women or women immigration officer all together they seem to dot every “i” and cross every “t”…When I was getting stamped out of Laos today, my passport didn’t scan properly, the lady of course had to find out what was wrong, she was about to get assistance …..While the guy next to her said give me the passport and stamped me out problem solved…Same problem when entering Thailand 6months ago, the old lady was taking forever looking at everything…..Today enter Thailand I looked for a young male officer, and in less then 3 minutes, he stamped me through😂😂😂😂

Female immigration officers can be OK but they do tend to make more mistakes than men. When I left for Laos with my car several weeks ago at Nong Khai, the female officer forgot to stamp my passenger form that every car owner receives when exiting Thailand. A male customs officer checking documents as you drive through the checkpoint before the bridge wanted me to go back and get the stamp. The next two guys after that said it wasn't necessary, so I drove on and crossed the bridge.

While there was no issue whatsoever, it was the first time this had happened as I take photographs of all the forms I've received every time I take my car out. I checked my computer and couldn't find a single one which wasn't stamped with the same exit stamp you receive in your passport.

Anyway, no problems on return. However, it turns out she also made a second mistake, which only became known to me when I was re-entering the country. The lady forgot to note that I have a re-entry permit and thus the immigration officers at the checkpoint where I re-entered, namely Chong Mek, made a note of this and contacted Nong Khai to let them know. This caused an additional 2 minute delay as they were stamping me in.

I should have insisted on going to the guy next to her. Next time I cross at Nong Khai, I probably will.

The bus leaves SVK to MUKDAHAN bus station for $26,000 kip….and waits for you as you go through immigration on the hour…Daily runs….Once you get to the Mukdahan station you can pretty much hit any major city in Thailand 🇹🇭

Ah so there are now 10 buses daily? That's even better than I thought! Of course, if you're departing very early or late, then the bus isn't an option but throughout the day, it's clear that catching the cross border bus is the way to go.

Why don't you catch the Savannakhet-Mukdahan bus, which will take you directly to the Mukdahan bus station? Every day I see people trying to do this run by changing transportation at the border. Just be patient there are at least 8 return journeys a day by bus along this route. Just go to the Savannakhet bus station and wait for the bus to Mukdahan. The wait shouldn't be too long. Probably an hour at most.

I did it a while ago. When you get your passport back jump in a tuk tuk outside the Embassy and go to Savannaket bus station- 3 minutes away. Get the 14:30pm bus to Mukdahan bus station, this will take you all the way from Laos to Mukdahan inc. stop for border crossing. The bus will drop you at bus station with a 4:30pm connection from Mukdahan to Mo chit.
