What are the options for extending a tourist visa in Thailand for medical reasons?

Hi,

My mom came on a 6 months Multi Entry tourist visa. The validity of the visa was till end of May. So we planned a trip out of the country and coming back to use the visa for another 60 + 30 days till end of August.

Now we couldn't leave the country and her METV expired and she's good to stay till end of June due to the tourist visa extension. But this is 2 months less than originally planned.

She's undergoing cancer treatment at Bumrungrad and needs these 2 more months at least. 

What is the best course of action in your opinion? Is there a way to extend the expired visa for medical reasons?

Go to Ho Chi minh and apply for new 6 month tourist visa with documentation of hospital that she has ongoing urgent treatment (they should give it in that case I guess)? But no one knows if we'll be allowed back in in July

She is covered under the amnesty to July 31.

You should talk with her doctor to obtain a Letter Medical Certificate to Thai Immigration seeking a Medical Extension for her treatment.

Following which she can return to home country or think about a retirement visa here in Thailand.

The Medical Extension is her best option. The doctors at her hospital will know what to do as Medical Tourism is actively solicited by them. Usually granted in 60 or 90 day permissions to stay.

if that's possible with kind of expired visa which has just been extended due to virus situation that would be great.

I would have her talk to her doctor at Bumrungrad and get an extension of stay based on medical reasons because she can't travel out. She'll be able to stay in Thailand for as long as her medical treatment is ongoing and she can not travel out of Thailand.

unless your mother is a citizen or has residency in Vietnam she can not get a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa in Vietnam

Ho chi minh no one knows if we'll be allowed back in in July.. That's another problem. I had good experience there last year that's why I was thinking
