What are the income reporting requirements for workcation DTV holders in Thailand?

Jan 28, 2025

Anyone get the information required for filing income as a workcation DTV

The deadline to report is March 31. I was told that previously it was only if in country 6 months but now I read that any online business or creator or influencers need to report income. Never stated 6 month

Has anyone inquired at the revenue department?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the income tax filing requirements for individuals on a workcation Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand. There is confusion about the income reporting threshold, with clarification that all online workers, regardless of how long they stay in Thailand, may need to report their income. Comments emphasize the importance of understanding local tax laws, consequences of not reporting, and conflicting guidelines regarding the 180-day residency rule for tax obligations.

I carefully wrote my employment contract to state that all in income is considered earned in the United States, regardless of where the work is performed. Come this summer, we will see how this plays out.

Currently Thailand does not tax global earnings. "IF" you are tax resident only income from outside Thailand that is assessable is that remitted into Thailand. If you do not bring it in then no need to declare. If you are tax resident and you remit it then there are DTA's in place as well as other allowances.

64 million dollar question. How will they know if you draw from overseas bank? Nothing is clear about taxation at this moment to be honest. If I was DTV I would watch and wait and see how the 2024 tax returns for Retirees are handled this year. The vast majority have never completed one in the past.

This report did not mention 180 days like all the posts here. The 180 days is for taxes this report was worded as reporting income if have any visa where you work online or remote. It said call 1611 or visit local revenue office. It said the income reporting can be done online. There were fines for not reporting income. 180 days was for paying taxes

Confusing because 2024 doesn’t apply under your statement because DTV approved in July. But what if in Thailand before that under tourist visa?

Yeah - where is this request to report. I do not want to be blatant but something smells very fishy here. As a working tax resident nobody ever chased me up to report. The ones on my back were the tax advisors employed by the company - wanted it all clear by end January. EDIT: I should say nobody officially ie Revenue Department.

Partecipante anonimo This is the main reason why Thailand is offering a 5-year visa for just 10,000 THB per year! If you fill out all the paperwork to avoid double taxation, probably nobody will pay double tax. However, I believe the plan is to fine people for not filling out the paperwork to avoid double taxation... So, I guess they will ask for a fine and ask you to pay tax again! They're starting with DTV and then moving on to other long-term visas.

Anonymous participant the visa is irrelevant. If you are inside Thailand for 180 days or more in any calendar year then you are a Thai tax resident that year

If you don't spend 180 days in Thailand within a calendar year you are unaffected by tax laws. If you are applying for digital nomad based DTV then the embassy may require you to show your income tax filings or recent income statements or contracts.
