The question of what happens if one overstays is a recurring theme. I just spotted this notice at BKK airport. All the best everyone. π

TLDR : Answer Summary
The topic of visa overstays in Thailand is frequently discussed among expats. Key points include potential penalties such as fines, which can be significant depending on the duration of the overstay. Comments highlight personal experiences, emphasizing the importance of adhering to visa regulations to avoid serious repercussions. For instance, one user shared an experience where a two-day overstay resulted in a five-year entry ban. Overall, the consensus is to avoid overstaying by being aware of visa status and deadlines.
It always made me laugh, the way they refer to foreigners as aliens, it's like something of a star wars movie π π

My son overstayed by 2 days. Crossed into Lao for a border run, they allowed him to cross back into Thailand. However, they banned him from entering for 5 years!
About 30 years ago when overstaying was not such a problem. 100 Baht per day with a maximum of 20K Baht, then it became a criminal offence if cought by the police but not if you made it to immigration when leaving. I'd stayed over 1 year and presented myself to immigration when leaving for a trip to Australia with the 20K in my pocket to pay the fine. The immigration officer looked at my passport but didn't notice the year in my entry stamp and charged me for a few weeks overstay π I went to Sydney with an extra 20K Baht to spend πππ

NEVEr, never ever go into overstay knowingly. It can have really bad repercussions
queue the "small boats" and illegal immigrants posts. π€¦. Sadly, such folk don't know the difference between asylum and illegal. Suits their agenda though, to be ignorant.
both enter illegally without a visa. They lie to remain in the UK. Our kindness suits their to get into the UK illegally. 99% are not fleeing oppresion but seeking economic gain from the UK tax payer.
I find most anti-immigrants are pro-military, see no issue with invasions and war, but have no thought for the displaced and refugees they have created. Oh, and think they are patriots. π
asylum seekers currently have little options. They are processed by us and if have a valid claim must wait for this to be approved. But you wouldn't be interested in details or facts. π€·
If they followed international law, they are required to settle in the next available country that is not at war. I agree that's partly down to the UK having a hand in the wars they are fleeing, but I see a lot of reports of illegals committing crimes and using ECHR article 8 to manipulate the system.
