Hi guys,

Iam flying out of Thailand together with friends on 12.November. Will be staying a week in Japan.

Now I have a visa exempt stamp from Cambodia valid until 11th November.

That means I would overstay one day.

I think of going to immigration on 1st November and get a 30day extension rather than getting an overstay stamp in my passport which might make it difficult to return to Thailand on 20th November after the holiday in Japan.

are you sure? Now as Big Joke is running the show? I do plan to return to Thailand after my Japan trip. A overstay stamp might give the immigration officer the feeling that I might overstay again

If you’re leaving out of BKK and have no checked in bags you can get a mobile boarding pass up the day before your flight so you can stamp out of Thailand before your visa expires.

Then you stay in one of the transit hotels, lounges or rough it in the terminal.

You’re technically still in Thailand but not officially.

I just wouldn't rely on this as a general rule if you don't know that BKK definitely does. Some airports will absolutely not let you do this and have a set time in hours before your flight before which they will not let you through security.

Airports which open 24 hours do. You have a valid boarding pass so youre allowed to go airside. Its not uncommon to spend 24 hours in a transit area anyway.

Even airline lounges let you use the lounge the previous day "unofficially" if youre eligible.

I wouldn't rely on this. I am not sure they will let you through security and immigration a day in advance of your flight, even with a boarding pass. Are you sure BKK allows this? Many airports don't.

Always best not to overstay. If you’re near a border, depending on which one it is, it might be cheaper and easier to hop over the border and back into Thailand again.

No it’s unlikely to be a problem but in my situation for instance, the border is 40 minutes away so it’s cheaper and easier to cross the border than it is to go to immigration.

Well the Myanmar border near Kanchanaburi is the closest, about 3 hours each way. 2000THB cost.

Do you think it could be a problem getting a 30 day extension at the Chaengwattana Immigration?

i had this one Single Entry Tourist Visa from Laos , then a 7 months ED visa and now my first 30 day visa exempt stamp this year from Cambodia.

However my passport has about 5 year history of about 3 non-B visas as i was employed here.2 ED Visas and some visa exempt stamps with 3-4 Tourist visas.

I think that you will get a fine and possibly a stamp in you passport for overstay which could present future entry problems.
