I am currently on a TR 6 month multiple entry visa where each visit cannot exceed 60 days. So effectively I have to leave at least once every 60 days in that 6 month period.
Just before my first 60 days were up I went overseas and then returned to Thailand. My new visa stamp says it is valid until the 20 September.
My question is if I leave Thailand to visit a friend in Laos and come back before the 20 September date does it reset as my like second visit out of the country ahd therefore shortens my overall 6 months? Or will it be that the date I next have to leave by is still 20 September so whatever date I return from after that resets and starts my second 60 days.
I am really tired and hoping this makes sense!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the workings of a 6-month multiple entry TR visa in Thailand, specifically regarding the reset of their stay period when leaving for another country (Laos) and returning before the visa expiration date. They needed clarification on whether the next entry would count toward the overall 6 months of visa validity or just reset their stay to another 60 days. Community responses explained that when leaving Thailand, the previous entry stamp is canceled, and they would receive a new 60-day stamp upon re-entering, as long as the visa is still valid. Additional questions about future visa options and stay limits were also included.
On a tourist Visa you can stay a maximum of 90 days + 90 days after leaving and re-entering the country.
After that can I come back to Thailand, or can I only stay a maximum of 6 months in a year.

Thank you so much! And one more question- once this visa expires in November if I leave and come back I can then likely get the 60 days on arrival for Australians is that correct?
sure you can. You can enter on the day the visa validity expire and stay in Thailand another 90 days. I and plenty others have done just that. Timed well, a METV can get you close to 9 months in total with 2 same day border bounces π
Hi Todd- i emailed the Thai embassy when I was applying for the visa and asked if the 6 month visa starts from date of approval or date or from the day we arrived in Thailand.
Their response βYou must enter to Thailand before the expiry date of visa date and then period of stay will count from the first day that you enter to Thailand.β
So Iβm now confused about this November 4 date- as this was the day I must start the visa not its expiry? Does that make sense
"You must enter to Thailand before the expiry date of visa date ( = "you come IN to the country right up until the 4th of Nov) and then period of stay will count from the first day that you enter to Thailand ( = you'll always get stamped in for 60 days [from the entry day]).
If you leave Thailand and come back in during November like the 3rd or 4th you will get 60 days on arrival which will expire at the beginning of January.
But you must return before midnight on the 4th of November.
doesn't waste any of the 6 months, the visa runs for as long as the visa runs, and every time you come in you get 60 days. if you don't stay the full 60 days when you come back you get a new 60 days,
