Brains trust. Non- imm based on marriage to a Thai National issued within the Kingdom. Expires Marchโ23. Australian passport. If I were to renew my passport in Australia and get supporting documents of old and new passport from embassy - would I enter the kingdom on a visa exempt then go to my local immigration (Trat) and get the visa transferred or what is the best avenue?
Many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew your Australian passport and transfer your Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai national, you should first confirm that you have a valid extension of stay. Before leaving Thailand, purchase a re-entry permit. Upon receiving your new passport in Australia, bring both your old passport (with the valid extension) and the new one upon re-entry to Thailand. Show both passports at immigration, and they will stamp you in on your new passport. Afterwards, visit the local immigration office in Trat to have your visa stamps transferred.

There is no Non-O visa you can get in the country that is good longer than 90 days so what you most likely have is a year extension of stay issued at the immigration office based on marriage to a thai, (read your stamp) ๐
IF so you would need to buy a re-entry permit BEFORE you leave,
Then you can go back to your country, get your new passport (you don't need anything from the embassy (seeing as there is no australian embassy IN australia ๐ฎ )
When you enter you show BOTH passports (the old one with the valid extension and re-entry permit in it and the new one that you just got).
They will stamp you in on the new one and after that you can go to the immigration office to get the stamps transferred.
They will not ask you for a letter from the embassy because you didn't get a new passport IN thailand and they will see you entered on the new one when you flew in.
