TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your Tourist Visa in Thailand before it expires on February 2nd, you should ideally apply when you have 30 days or less remaining on your current stamp. You can apply at your local immigration office; major cities like Chiang Mai and Bangkok have designated offices such as the Changwattana Immigration office in Bangkok. For the extension process, you need to bring your passport, copies of your passport's data page, recent visa, most recent stamp, departure card, and possibly a TM30 form, along with two passport-sized photos and a processing fee of 1,900 THB. It is crucial to check local requirements as they may vary by immigration office.

One thing i will add. If your tm30 is registered as living with thai girlfriend or wife.. and you apply for an extension, in surin office, they ask for the others id card and baan book..just a thought.

Assuming you entered on a single entry tourist visa that allows you to stay for 60 days on entry:

>When should I ideally apply?

The 30 day extension of stay based on tourism is added on to your current "admitted to" stamp.

Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Buriram, Chiang Rai and a couple of others all allow people to apply for extensions when they have 45 days or less left on their current stamp. The other immigration offices are 30 days. However, ask your local immigration office for specific details.

>Where should I apply

You will apply at your local immigration office. All provinces have at least one immigration office. If you are in Bangkok Proper (NOT Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, etc...) you will use Changwattana Immigration office. Remember, there are over 70 immigration offices in Thailand.

>Assistance on process and docs pls

You will go to the immigration office with the following documents:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa or an e-mail copy of your forms (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. [May not be asked at Bangkok Immigration] A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and want to use their special forms, and copies of forms you find online may not be accepted)

4. 2x passport pictures

5. 1,900 THB processing fee

Generally, you will hand your passport and the copies of your passport and TM30 to a person at the front counter. They will review the documents. If they are satisfied, they will hand you or direct you to the forms to complete, and give you a queue number. You'll complete the forms, and when your number is called, you'll go to a counter. You will hand the documents to the immigration officer, they will review the documents, and if they are satisfied, they will take a picture of you using a web camera, take your money, and issuing you a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism on the spot. I never heard of anyone being rejected for this extension of stay (assuming they do not have a passport where this extension of stay is not granted).

1. How long are you planning on being in Thailand?

2. How old are the children?

i need an extension for 30-45 days. Eventually convert to a Work permit or I might exit to get that done if need be.

My kids are 9 and 5

In that case, everyone will need to go to immigration and get the 30 day extension of stay based on tourism.

I read somewhere there is a covid extension. Does that apply for me too?

@Hemant ********
A person usually needs a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism before they can issue a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. Since you'll eventually get a work permit some immigration offices do not grant an in-country Non-B if a person has a COVID-19 extension.
