So I gathered all the documents and went to immigration in Phuket town and they told me it's not possible to change the extension from ED to O based on marriage. They told me to go to a consulate or embassy outside the kingdom and apply for a non O for 90 days and convert it at immigration when I have less then 30 days left on it, now I don't know what to believe anymore.
If I listen to them, where do I go (what consulate?) to apply and what will the reason for the non O 90 days be? Converting? Is there a visa with the only purpose to be converted inside the country?
Do I still need to cancel my ED extension?
Please straighten this out for me.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarity on converting their ED visa to a Non-O visa based on marriage after being told by immigration in Phuket that it's not possible to change the visa type there. The conversation suggests going to a Thai consulate in neighboring countries (like Laos or Malaysia) to apply for a 90-day Non-O visa, provides details about required documents, and discusses experiences from others regarding the different rules at various consulates.

Guess it's the same as the banks here. Some branches allow foreigners to open accounts with minimal paperwork, some don't. It all depends on the bank manager. There's no standardisation.
no worries.. maybe in Bangkok once this can be done, but now maybe different. That's why this group is needed to update every new rules, can't stick out to old rules, even for 3 months ago. Cheers :)

Okay, well, now that that's off the table for you I'd say go to a thai consulate in a neighboring country and get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa.
, you've got your answer, seems like Penang is the thai consulate you can use for your 90 day single entry Non-O visa with the notary letter from your consulate
Good Luck, report back and let us know how it went
usually Penang asks bank statement showing only 200,000 or more baht, that doesn't need to be on account since 2 or 3 months: just few days before visa application are enough.
Can check with my agent in Penang if affidavit letter WITHOUT bank statements is fine.
Usually they ask only statement or both letter and statement
I compared airfare between Phuket and Lao and Phuket and Penang, 4 times more expensive to fly to Lao.
Do you think Penang is okey with an affidavit from the Swedish consulate stating my monthly income (over 40,000 Bt) as a proof of funds, or does it have to be money in the bank?
nope, I highly doubt it'd work and I wouldn't even waste the time tryin' it.
Just go to Vientiane or Savannakhet and get the 90 day single entry Non-O visa, get stamped in for 90 days and then file for a yearly extension at the immigration office in your area like normal.
Heck if you don't wanna go to Lao go to the thai consulate in Penang Malaysia, you'd have to show proof of funds but you could get the 90 day single entry Non-O there too
I had another thought; you said it's possible to change extension from ED to O in Bangkok, wouldn't it be possible for me to go to Bangkok and do it there?
, you could go to either thai consulate in Lao (Vientiane or Savannakhet) and get a 90 day single-entry Non-O visa based on marriage with no proof of funds, just the marriage certificates, thai wife's i/d and house book listing.
