Hi Tod Daniels - can I ask you a quick question please. The reset of the year with respect to people going in and out on 30 day visa exempt arrivals - does this reset every calendar year??? Or does immigration count any given 12 month period??? I saw a comment down below that you made saying 'Wait until it resets with the new calendar year.'

Okay, we're done, It's TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) for people from 51 countries meaning that come Jan 1st the calendar resets and you get two more

Now for you next problem, there is no maximum 180 days allowed in a year by this type Visa or Visa Exempt Entry. The rule does not exist, but some immigration officers will tell you as it seems a simple way to explain that a Visa Exempt Entry or a Tourist Visa are for short times stay and not for living inside Thailand.

The the count for 2 land border entries without a visa called Visa Exempt Entry is reset as the new years begins. it is 2 a calendar year and that starts at 1 Jan and ends on 31 Dec.

The twice a year limit only applies to land crossings and it resets on January 1st. There's no limit on air arrivals

Except that I was told last week when flying in from Cambodia - that I had done 180 days in total on visa on arrivals 2 by land 30 days - with 30 day extensions, and 1 by air with a 30 day extension - and at Don Mueang airport they said I had exceeded the 180 days allowed in a year by this type of tourist visa. Thank god I speak Thai well - and I had a long chat to the senior officer who I was sent to see - and he stamped me in. But told me to sort out a longer term visa again. I went off retirement visas in April due to the withdrawl of the affidavit method.
