The current extension of my non-O visa (retirement) expires on 6 April; my 90-day check-in is due by 3 April.  Am I correct in assuming that applying for a one-year extension of the non-O visa (i.e., to stay another year) will not satisfy the requirement for the 90-day check-in?

You are correct, getting a new yearly extension does NOT affect your 90 day reporting at all

Here's a fool proof way how you can tell if the immgiration office reset your 90 day report when you get your year extension

ASK YOURSELF

Did I get a new 90 day report receipt with a new date to report when I got my yearly extension?

If that answer is NO, it means they didn't reset your 90 days and you report when the receipt you have says to 🙂

If that answer is YES, and you did get a new 90 day report receipt you follow it and toss the receipt you have 🙂
