TLDR : Answer Summary
US citizens do not need a visa to enter Thailand for tourism purposes for up to 60 days. Instead of a visa, they receive a free visa exemption entry stamp upon arrival. It is important to have a flight out of Thailand within 60 days and to keep your airline boarding pass handy for Passport Control.
i hadnt either until a mate booked a Qantas flight from Australia. He rang me panicking. I gave him my onward flight sut he booked for Aussie $16. 10 minutes later he checked in with the email. He was on a bus from Chiang mai to Laos.
I have since seen references to this on the visa site
Well... never heard about that... and I don't think that they have the right to define the kind of onward travel, not really their business. But I agree... a flight ticket is clearly the "safe side".
air travel only according to most airlines. They will ask for proof of onward air travel. Its been reported in other posts by the moderators that other forms maybe rejected
