Hey all, my family and I are here from Australia. I am on an education visa, but they are all still on tourist visas (we’ve only been here a few weeks). 

When we left Australia, we each got 60 day tourist visas but the actual visa in each passport has an expiry of 90 days according to the dates. 

Is that 90 days automatic, or do we have to apply to extend it to 90 days before 60 days has expired?

You are confusing the validity of a single entry tourist visa which is 90 days from the date it's issued (and means you had 90 days to enter the country on that visa) with the amount of time you get stamped into the country on a tourist visa which is 60 days.

You can extend your current stamp by 30 days at the immigration office for 1900baht

, it makes it worse when the thai consulates SELL that tourist visa as a 90 day visa (meaning it's good for 90 days, not that you get stamped into the country for 90) :/

, Any immigration office in the country is fine to use. BUT you will need to use an address that is in the area where that office is.

When you say immigration office - can I do this at the one here at Chiang Rai, or do I need to go somewhere else (like Chiang Mai or Bangkok)
