I entered Thailand on 26 Aug on a non-o 1 year multiple entry visa which allows me to stay for 90 days till 23 Nov. However, my visa itself expires on 4 Sep and Iโll be going for holiday and returning on 5 Sep. Is it possible to get a re-entry permit at the airport and continue using my current stamp in?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user asked whether they could get a re-entry permit at the airport for their non-O multiple entry visa, which allows them to stay in Thailand until November 23 but expires on September 4. Commenters clarified that a single re-entry permit is needed to return on September 5 while maintaining the stay until the end of the 90-day allowance.

You definitely NEED a single re-entry permit IF you want to come back on Sept 5th and still get stamped in until Nov 23.

Lee - If you say you already have a "multiple entry" visa stamp, you DON'T Require a re-entry visa. That's what it means. You already paid for multiple re-entries. ๐
they currently have an entry stamp that lets them stay in the country until Nov 23rd. IF they buy a re-entry permit now before they leave when they come back on Sept 5th (after the visa expires) they'd still get stamped in until the 23rd of Nov because the re-entry permit kept that stamp 'alive' while they were out of the country.
The valid until date only means that you need to use the visa to enter Thailand before that date. a Visa gives you a certain amount of Admitted to stay days, this period allowed to stay can exceed the valid until date.

Tod Daniels If the visa expires on 4th September, how can they get a re-entry permit then to use a visa that finished the day before returning?
The O/P holds a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa that EXPIRES on the 4th of Sept. They are RETURNING to thailand on the 5th of September <- Last time I checked that's a day AFTER the visa expires meaning they can't get stamped in on it no matter if it's a multi-entry or not.
IF they want to keep their current stamp "alive" while they exit/re-enter the country they need a single re-entry permit
